About the association

One national body for the wheat trade

Why WTAP

Wheat is the staple food for a dominant portion of Pakistan's population. It occupies a supreme position among food grains, covering approximately 67% of the total area under food grains and contributing approximately 75% of total food-grain production. Annual national consumption stands at approximately 32 million tons.

Despite that weight in the economy, no wheat association worked at the national level. WTAP was established so that the whole chain — millers, users, consumers, exporters and importers of wheat and wheat products — has one platform to resolve its problems and to speak to government with a single voice.

The Association guides the Government on import and export decisions in the light of international and domestic market conditions, and keeps its members informed on pricing, duties, taxes, support prices and stock positions.
